Implementing TK20 Assessment System: A Collaborative Effort
The purpose of this paper is to share results of a collaborative effort introducing the TK20 assessment system in the Department of Education and Human Development at the College of Brockport, State University of New York. The authors will define and explain the TK 20 assessment system and its relationship to accreditation and standards. We will discuss the process of pilot testing and implementing this assessment system. We will also describe the interdisciplinary efforts for effective collaboration into a college wide assessment system. We will share the impact of such a system on students using a firsthand voice. Readers can take away ideas for similar implementation efforts and assignments

Voice Onset Time Characteristics of Selected Phonemes in Young and Old Male Speakers
The purpose of the investigation was to compare mean voice onset time in young and old male subjects, as well as to examine variability of VOT productions with age for prevocalic bilabial, alveolar, and velar voiced and voiceless stop consonants. Forty-five Caucasion.males were divided equally into three.age groups. Ten tokens of six stimulus words were recorded and wide band spectrograms were made. Results of an analysis of variance revealed no significant differences in VOT with age when averages of the phonemes were used for analysis; however, a significant interaction between age and voiced phonemes was found when individual trials of phoneme productions were used for analysis
Embedding the Global Dimension into Secondary Initial Teacher Training through the use of virtual schools
This article reports on the progress of an action
research project designed to embed the Global
Dimension into Secondary Initial Teacher Education
at the Cass School of Education, University of East
London. Conceived in 2007, the project built on
the recognised strengths of our provision â the
âvirtual schoolsâ initiative and our relations with
our partnership schools, both of which were
recognised by Ofsted in their 2008 and 2010
inspections of the work of the Secondary Initial
Teacher Education at UEL. The project sought to
weave the Global Dimension around the framework
of virtual schools using our strong partnership with
school-based colleagues to support this initiative.
This article reports on the progress the project has
made in its second year informed by an analysis
of school-based partnership staff and trainee
evaluations examining the outcomes of the project
in its first year
Embedding Global Citizenship into Secondary Initial Teacher Training through the use of Virtual Schools: some lesson
This paper reports on the initial phases of a project that was designed to embed
Education for Global Citizenship as a feature of the secondary provision for teacher
training at the Cass School of Education, University of East London. In planning the
project it was decided to build on recognised strengths of our provision â the âvirtual
schoolsâ initiative and our partnership relations. Both were recognised as strengths
by Ofsted in their 2008 inspection of the work of the Secondary Group at UEL. The
project sought to weave Education for Global Citizenship around the framework of
these virtual schools using the strong partnership with school based colleagues to
support this initiative

Evaluation of the efficacy of commercial disinfectants against Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense Race 1 and Tropical Race 4 propagules
Panama disease caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense (Foc) has devastated banana production worldwide. This work aimed to determine effective disinfectants against two races of Foc, race 1 and tropical race 4 (TR4), for implementation with on-farm biosecurity procedures against this disease following the outbreak of TR4 in North Queensland in 2015. A total of 32 commercial disinfectants were screened and their activity was assessed after †30 sec, 5 min, 30 min and 24 hr of contact with a Foc suspension containing 105/ml chlamydospores without and with soil added (0.05 g/ml). Of the disinfectants tested, the quaternary ammonium compounds containing ℠10% active ingredient were found to be the most effective against both Foc races. These products, when used at a 1:100 dilution, completely inhibited the survival of all Foc propagules across all the contact times regardless of the absence or presence of soil. The bioflavonoids product EvoTech 213 and bleach (10% sodium hypochlorite) used at a 1:10 dilution also eliminated all Foc propagules across all the contact times. None of the detergent-based or miscellaneous products tested were completely effective against both Foc races even used at a 1:10 dilution. Soil decreases the efficacy of disinfectants and therefore must be removed from contaminated items before treatments are applied
